St. John Lutheran Church is a congregation of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America, located at 4600 Jimmy Johnson Boulevard in Port Arthur. Our style of worship is liturgical, following the worship form handed down from the early Christian church, and is led by the pastor in praise and prayer, lessons and hymns, with significant participation from the people in the pews. The Lutheran Church does not claim to be the only saving church, but it does endeavor to preserve and to pass on the truth as it is found in the Bible. It teaches, not the opinions of humans, but the revelation of God. We invite you to join us for worship and to work with us as we serve God and our neighbors in this community.

MISSION STATEMENT

As followers of Jesus, we respond to God's gift of love, grace and forgiveness and each of us commits to stewardship and witness in all situations and before all people celebrating our diversities and similarities.

CONGREGATIONAL MINISTRIES

In addition to Sunday morning worship services, Sunday Church School is available beginning in September and ending in May. At specified times during the Winter, Summer and Fall months, we offer a program of fellowship and Bible study on Wednesday nights for all ages. The Women of the ELCA meets from time to time, and an evening circle and a morning circle meet monthly. Committees are formed to carry out the business and ministries of the congregation. There are programs for those who want to serve the poor, give monies and gifts to those in crisis, and visit the sick, as well as a Kairos program which bring God's love to those who are imprisoned.

Included in upcoming events for the Fall of 2002 is an Octoberfest celebration, which will take place on Saturday, October 5th, and will include activities for all ages: fun and games for children and adults alike, as well as lots of good food.
